Orange Lions Show Grit at Hubbard Winter Wrestling Tournament

HUBBARD, OH- The Orange Lions wrestling team traveled to Hubbard on Saturday to compete in the Hubbard Winter Wrestling Tournament, where several wrestlers battled through tough brackets and came away with valuable mat experience.
Drew Moderick turned in a strong performance in the 138-pound weight class, finishing fourth overall. Moderick opened the tournament with an impressive win over Jason Rusinko of Strongsville, then followed it up with another victory against Connor Ahlin of Madison. His run was slowed in the semifinals when he fell to Markel Hackwelder of Hubbard. In the third-place match, Moderick dropped a hard-fought decision to Will Petrunia of Canfield, settling for fourth place.
Henry Jais also placed fourth, competing in the 113-pound class. Jais faced a challenging path, losing early to Stephen Toth of Canfield and Kaiden Ruscin of Madison. He rebounded with a win over Mason Huggins of Madison to earn a spot in the third-place match. There, Jais again matched up with Toth and fell for the second time in the tournament, finishing fourth.
Jack Johnson competed in a deep 138-pound bracket and finished 10th. Johnson opened with losses to Rowan Lehocky of CVCA and Will Petrunia of Canfield but bounced back with a win over Dominic Neal of Cardinal. In the ninth-place match, Johnson was defeated by Gage Reents of Boardman to close out his day.
Overall, the Orange Lions gained valuable experience against strong competition as they continue their season.
