PEPPER PIKE, OH- The Orange Lions stormed back into the win column Friday night with a commanding 47-28 victory over Jefferson, fueled by explosive plays and a relentless first-half attack.
EJ Dowdell ignited the Lions with a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play, giving Orange an early 7-0 lead. Dowdell would later add another touchdown to cap off a strong individual performance.
The Lions weren’t finished. In fact, they piled on 33 unanswered points before Jefferson managed to respond, building a comfortable lead that proved insurmountable.
Quarterback Jonah Frey was nearly flawless under center, completing 6 of 7 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Chaz Rosiles for scoring strikes of 53 and 72 yards, and found Jordan Eason for a 39-yard touchdown to round out his air assault.
On the ground, Russell Tye provided the thunder. The powerful back rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a 61-yard sprint to the end zone.
Despite Jefferson putting together some second-half offense, the Lions’ early dominance sealed the win.
With the victory, Orange improves to 2-2 and will look to keep the momentum rolling as they head to Ashtabula Lakeside next Friday night.
