SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH- The Orange Lions powered past the Beachwood Bison 56–34 at the DY Classic hosted by Shaker Heights High School, using a strong start and a steady second-half surge to secure the victory. Senior standout Alex McCulloch led the way with 18 points, earning tournament MVP honors.
Orange struck early behind the duo of McCulloch and Jayhlin Sheppard. McCulloch scored 6 of his game-high 18 points in the opening quarter, while Sheppard added 7 of his 9 points to help the Lions build a 17–12 lead after one.
In the second quarter, the Lions extended their advantage to 28–18, boosted by two crucial three-pointers from Dillion Mathur. But Beachwood came out of halftime looking to rally. The Bison opened the third quarter with a corner three from Eriq Walker, trimming the deficit to 28–21. Walker went on to lead Beachwood with 15 points.
That, however, was as close as the Bison would get. Orange responded with a composed stretch, outscoring Beachwood 12–7 to close the third and taking a 40–28 lead into the final period.
Mathur helped seal the win in the fourth quarter, scoring 7 of his 15 points down the stretch as the Lions pulled away for the 56–34 triumph. With McCulloch’s leadership and a balanced supporting cast, Orange capped off the night with a convincing tournament win and an MVP performance from their senior star.
