PEPPER PIKE, OH- The Orange Lions’ strong three-quarter performance wasn’t enough to hold off a surging West Geauga squad, as the Wolverines used a decisive fourth-quarter run to hand Orange a 66–58 defeat on Tuesday night.
West Geauga opened the game with energy, racing out to an 8–2 advantage. But Orange quickly settled in, ending the first quarter on an 8–1 run to grab a 10–9 lead. The Lions built on that momentum in the second quarter, fueled by Alex McCulloch’s sharp play. McCulloch scored 7 of his 12 points in the period, helping Orange take a 27–22 lead into halftime.
The Lions continued to control the pace in the third quarter. Jaylhin Sheppard added 5 of his game-high 16 points, while Dillon Mathur buried two of his five three-pointers on the night, allowing Orange to maintain a 43–38 edge heading into the final frame.
However, the fourth quarter took a sharp turn. Orange struggled to find offense while West Geauga surged. The Wolverines opened the quarter on a pivotal 10–0 run to seize the lead, and the Lions were unable to recover. Despite their earlier control, Orange couldn’t slow West Geauga’s momentum and ultimately fell 66–58.
The Lions will look to bounce back when they host Mayfield on Friday.
