PEPPER PIKE, OH- The Orange Lions showed resilience and fight, but ultimately came up short in a 9-5 extra-inning loss to Chagrin Falls.
Orange found itself in an early hole, trailing 5-1 after four innings. Despite the deficit, the Lions refused to back down. In the fifth inning, Orange mounted an impressive rally, stringing together timely hits to even the score at 5-5 and shift the momentum.
The game remained deadlocked through regulation, setting the stage for extra innings. In the top of the ninth, however, Chagrin Falls broke through, plating four runs to reclaim control and secure the victory.
Offensively, Xavier Carlisle-Winston led the way for the Lions, going 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk while driving in two runs. George Gallup contributed with a pair of hits, and Russell Melvey added a hit along with a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound, Blake Jacops delivered a solid outing, pitching 6 2/3 innings and recording three strikeouts while keeping Orange within striking distance for much of the game.
Although the Lions battled back and showed grit, the late surge by Chagrin Falls proved to be the difference in a hard-fought contest.
