CHAGRIN FALLS, OH- The Orange Lions and Chagrin Falls Tigers put on a show Saturday night at The Pond, with the Lions coming up just short in a wild 8–7 overtime loss in one of the most dramatic games of the season.
Orange burst out of the gates and set the tone early. Russell Tye opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, and Cooper Radillo followed just minutes later to give the Lions a 2–0 lead after one period of play. Noah Rice played a key role early, assisting on both goals.
The Lions continued to roll in the second period. Ben Hegyes extended the lead to 3–0 early in the frame with a power play goalO, again with Rice picking up the assist. After Chagrin Falls cut the deficit to 3–1, Hegyes delivered one of the night’s most memorable moments. Fresh out of the penalty box after serving a two-minute hooking minor, Hegyes jumped onto the ice, collected the puck, and buried a breakaway goal with 5:54 left in the period to make it 4–1.
The Tigers, however, responded with urgency, scoring three times in the final two minutes of the second period to pull even at 4–4 heading into the third.
Chagrin Falls grabbed its first lead midway through the third period when Alexander Miller found the net. The Tigers added two more goals over the next five minutes, building what appeared to be a commanding 7–4 advantage with just 3:28 remaining.
Orange refused to quit. Noah Rice sparked the comeback with a goal at the 2:23 mark, and just nine seconds later Radillo netted his second goal of the night to cut the deficit to one. One minute later, Tye struck again, tying the game at 7–7 and sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Goaltender Caleb Rivchun was outstanding throughout the night, making several highlight-reel saves to keep the Lions alive. Rivchun finished with an incredible 55 saves.
In overtime, Orange nearly completed the comeback when Rice broke free on a breakaway early in the extra session, but the puck stayed out. Chagrin Falls ultimately sealed the win when Josh Baraona scored with 5:29 remaining in overtime.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, the Lions showed resilience, firepower, and fight in an unforgettable contest that went down to the final moments.
