KIRTLAND, OH- The Orange girls basketball team came up short on Monday night, falling to Kirtland 46–27 in a tough road matchup.
Orange stayed competitive early, trailing the Hornets just 9–6 after one quarter of play. A key three-pointer by Mackenzie Mitchell helped keep the Lions within striking distance in the opening minutes, but Kirtland’s shooting touch soon made the difference.
The Hornets took control in the second quarter, using a 14–2 run to create separation before halftime. Kirtland’s success from beyond the arc proved decisive, as the Hornets connected on nine three-pointers for the game. Orange, meanwhile, was able to convert just once from long range.
Courtney Norton led the Lions offensively with eight points, battling through a defense that limited scoring opportunities throughout the night. Despite the effort, Orange was unable to overcome Kirtland’s perimeter shooting and steady scoring.
Anna Dumstorff paced the Hornets with 12 points, leading a balanced Kirtland attack that maintained control for the remainder of the contest.
Orange will look to regroup and bounce back in its next outing.
