MASON, OH- The Orange High School girls tennis team traveled to Cincinnati on Thursday to compete in the OHSAA Girls Tennis Championships, held at the prestigious Lindner Family Tennis Center.
Leading the way for Orange was sophomore standout Genevieve Hayden, who powered her way into the state singles semifinals. Hayden showcased her dominance on the court, opening the tournament with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win over Uleodo Ezike of Lexington. She followed that with a near-flawless 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mila Gelbart of Dayton Oakwood to secure her spot in Friday's semifinal round. Hayden will face Abigail Lynch of Gilmour Academy with a trip to the state finals on the line.
In doubles play, Orange had two teams competing, both making strong showings before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
The duo of Lily Guiler and Ivy Berlin opened with a gritty comeback win over Kennedi Washington and Tamma De Boer of Dayton Miami Valley School, dropping the first set 2-6 before rallying for 6-3 and 6-1 victories. However, they fell to Dani Forte and Valeria Kislyansky of Hawken in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Adele Tokmazeysky and Raina Patel started strong with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Margo Lewis and Mackenzie Welch of Chillicothe Unioto. Their tournament run ended in the quarters with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 loss to Corinne Labin and Miranda Wang of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.
With Hayden still in the hunt for a state title, the Orange girls tennis team remains a force to watch as the tournament continues.
