NEWBURY, OH- In a dramatic finish at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament, the girls golf team fell just one stroke shy of advancing to the District Finals, carding a team score of 373 and placing 4th overall. Gilmour Academy edged them out for the final qualifying spot with a 372.
Mentor Lake Catholic took top honors with a 369, while Southeast and Chagrin Falls tied for second at 370. Only the top four teams advanced to the District round.
Despite the narrow team loss, junior Anuja Patel shined brightly. She captured the individual sectional title with an impressive round of 76, narrowly holding off Edgewood’s Annie Johnston, who finished with a 78.
With her victory, Patel will represent her school as an individual at the District tournament next week in Akron, continuing her outstanding season and keeping the team’s hopes alive for a presence at the state level.
