CHAGRIN FALLS, OH- The Orange Lions fought through a whirlwind of injuries Friday night, but the shorthanded roster couldn’t slow the relentless Canfield Cardinals, falling 9–2 at the Pond.
From the opening faceoff, Canfield took control. The Cardinals struck three times in the first period and netted the first six goals of the game, using their depth and fresh legs to keep constant pressure in the Lions’ zone. Outshot 37–25, Orange struggled to generate sustained offense while the Cardinals rolled out wave after wave of scoring threats.
Despite the uphill battle, the Lions showed sparks of resilience. Noah Rice broke through late in the second period, scoring unassisted to get Orange on the board. He followed up with another goal early in the third, providing the Lions’ only tallies of the night.
Between the pipes, goaltender Caleb Rivchun stood tall under heavy fire, turning away 28 shots and preventing the margin from widening even further.
Though the scoreboard wasn’t in their favor, the Lions’ effort and grit shone through as they battled a deep and determined Canfield squad.
