Big Second Inning Powers Orange Past Harvey

PAINESVILLE, OH- The Orange Varsity Lions used a dominant second inning to propel themselves to a 10-4 victory over Harvey on Thursday at Kiwanis Recreation Park.
Orange broke the game open in the second, plating six runs in a flurry of offense and patience at the plate. An early error brought in the first run, followed by RBI singles from Bryce Barragate, George Gallup, and Russell Melvey. The Lions continued to apply pressure as Melvey and Xavier Carlisle-Winston each drew bases-loaded walks to cap the inning and give Orange full control.
Benjamin Carpenter earned the win in the circle, delivering a strong performance by allowing six hits and three runs over six innings while striking out six and walking three. Branaghan Blasier came on in relief to help secure the victory. Harvey’s Jake Boehm took the loss, surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits over seven innings.
Offensively, Orange racked up 11 hits on the day. Gallup set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-5, while Melvey added two hits in four at-bats. Jacops delivered in key moments, driving in a team-high three RBIs and drawing two walks from the seventh spot in the order.
The Lions showed discipline at the plate, working six walks, and aggressiveness on the bases with four stolen bases. Defensively, Orange was flawless, committing no errors, with Carlisle-Winston leading the way with 10 chances in the field.
Harvey finished with nine hits, led by Greyson Lentine, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Ryan Delaney and Davis each added two hits and multiple stolen bases as Harvey totaled four steals on the game.
With timely hitting, strong pitching, and clean defense, the Lions put together a complete performance in the win.
